A Trip Back in Time: Dinosaur Land

a sign with text and images on it

In this case it was a trip back to the ’50s! On a recent wine-tasting weekend in the Shenandoah I passed Dinosaur Land Educational Prehistoric Park on Rt 522. Of course I had to stop!

The very old-school amusement park starts with walk down a  long gift-shop aisle filled with ceramics, glass, and stuffed or plastic dinosaur figures. Then through the time tunnel and out onto the pre-historic grounds.

Only the shark and King Kong can be climbed upon, all other animals are off limits.

The figures are pretty well worn with time, but still lots of fun. We recognized creatures from the Jurassic Park movie and other misshapen looking things I’d never seen before.

And things do get a little bit gory at times.

I think the highlight is getting to sit in King Kong’s hand near the end!

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for kids (no AAA discounts) and it’s well worth it. I loved things like this growing up and now as an adult with a camera and a sense of humor, I could still revel in it.

What’s been the most delightful tourist stop you’ve made?
