Ink Bold/Plus Pays for Itself with Cable Bill

a blue credit card with silver text

My new Chase Ink Bold credit card just arrived in the mail! It comes with a slew of great features, not the least of which is the 50,000 point sign up bonus. 25,000 Ultimate Rewards points with first purchase, an additional 25,000 points for spending $10,000 on the card in 3 months. The other great feature, which I did not fully appreciate until last night is that it offers 5x points for using it to pay your phone, internet, and cable bills, as well as office supplies.

Invalid request error occurred.I had not intended to keep the card after the first year was up. I have several business and personal credit cards that offer similar benefts, such as no foreign currency transaction fee, so paying another $95 annual fee probably wouldn’t be worth it.

But as I was dutifully updating my Verizon payment methods I realized I would be earning 13,200 points a year just from my phone and cable bill alone!! If I put nothing else on that card, I’d still be paying less than $.007 per point. I can only imagine how many points households with multiple phone lines or televisions would be earning!

So what does 13,200 Ultimate Rewards points for $95 (first year waived) get you? In May it got me a night in a Park Hyatt Mendoza suite or club level room at the Grand Hyatt Santiago with points to spare. Don’t have a personal business? You could 😉 Check out View from the Wing’s thoughts on applying for business credit cards.
